On 20 May 2025, the EU adopted its 17th sanctions package against Russia, marking a significant escalation in the restrictive measures imposed in response to Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine. This package is characterized by an expansion of both its material and geographical scope, reflecting a more sophisticated and integrated approach to enforcement and, not least, to combating the circumvention of sanctions.
